About LiveTokyo

LiveTokyo is a hand-picked list of Japan's public live cameras that you can watch on one screen.

What this is

Pick a place, and the camera plays right here. The list runs from Tokyo's crossings and towers to Kyoto's temples, Mt. Fuji, the snow of Hokkaido and the sea around Okinawa. Every camera has its own page, so you can share the one you like or come back to it tomorrow. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.

How cameras are chosen

We give priority to streams run by broadcasters, city offices, airports, temples and shrines, and tourism organisations, and we check each one before listing it. Cameras are re-checked afterwards, and any that go dark are removed. The list is kept short on purpose.

How the list is ordered

Tokyo, Kyoto, Mt. Fuji and Osaka come first. The remaining regions run from north to south. Within each place the order is editorial, it does not change with the time of day, and nothing is picked at random. The first camera on the list plays by default.

Playback and credits

Video plays through YouTube's standard player from the publishing channel. LiveTokyo does not copy, re-encode or re-host it. Each camera page names and links to the channel, and so does the all cameras list.

The site is written in English first. A Japanese version of every page is one tap away in the header.
